Gaming Laptops - Are They Really Suitable For Gaming?

12 July 2009 09:16:00

http://3critical.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/ps3lappie.jpgDespite the ever increasing demand and popularity of gaming laptops; there still remains one persistent issue that just won't go away. Are gaming laptops really suitable for video gaming in the first place? Many die-hard gamers still mock the whole notion of video gaming on a laptop computer. The two simply are not compatible, they do not compute. They argue a laptop is simply too small and too compact to handle all that heat --- literally, figuratively and physically.Achieving high performance usually means any computer, whether desktop or laptop, will give off a lot of heat. And cramming all those high-end components into such a small confined space only adds to this problem. Many gamers complain that gaming notebooks simply produce too much heat and there is the ever persistent problem of frying your rig. Given the fact that many gamers also have a long-term obsession to overclocking gives this concern even more weight. If you monitor the different gaming forums, you will hear constant anecdotal stories of gaming laptops simply unable to handle all that heat. And then there is the issue of fan noise as your gaming rig tries to keep everything on the cool side. Many find gaming laptops just too noisy and would rather try their luck with a gaming PC instead.Besides why waste all that money on a gaming notebook when you can get a much better gaming system at a far cheaper price by going with a desktop PC. This issue of price advantage is one of the most compelling arguments for NOT buying a gaming laptop. However, there are also several more very legitimate arguments that those die-hard and battle-wary gamers also know and make. One has to do with the whole idea of upgrading since gaming laptops can't be upgraded as easily as a desktop PC. Actually, with most laptops you can upgrade the RAM with ease if you have the free slots available. You can also upgrade the Hard Drive but depending on your laptop model, other components such as Graphics Cards and processors may be hard (if not impossible or worthwhile) to upgrade in a laptop compared with upgrading a desktop PC.On the other hand, with a desktop PC, there is amble room for upgrading which makes it a much more suitable candidate since gaming systems need to be constantly upgraded if you want the best gaming performance possible; which after all is the unwritten creed of most true gamers. They want the best and they want it now. However, major laptop makers know a good thing (profit) when they see it and are jumping all over the gaming laptop market. We are constantly seeing more and more powerful gaming systems hitting the marketplace. Recently, we saw Dell muscling in on Alienware (which Dell owns) by launching the new all-powerful Alienware m17x through its marketing outlets as well as through Alienware. It's powerful mobile gaming systems like M17x which will gradually defeat this argument that laptops are no good for gaming. The M17x offers extreme high performance with an Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad overclockable processor and Dual 1 gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M graphics card (SLI Enabled 1,024MB) and with up to 8GB shared dual DDR3 at 1,333MHz. Impressive specs which would make many a desktop PC blush with envy. Then again, there is the whole issue of style over performance. Many gamers just want and desire all that flash and cool style of high-end gaming laptops. They just might be the coolest looking devices on the planet. Plus, they are easier to lug around than a desktop PC, no matter which way you swing it.Gaming laptops, despite the obvious objections from die-hard gamers with upgrading, overheating, fan noise and those hefty price tags, are probably here to stay and will gradually eat into the gaming desktop market. Whether they can also fully capture the hearts of true gamers is an entirely different question, one that won't be answered any time soon.

Tips to Keep Your Laptop Cool in the Summer

12 July 2009 09:11:00

http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2009/06/laptop-cleaning.jpgAs a result of Notebook computer's limited internal space, it's cooling system is very different from desktop computers. The quality of cooling is crucial to the stability of it, and since summer is here, this problem can not be ignored. CPU, graphic cards, hard drives, memory, and screen are the heart producing parts in the computers. CPU is the biggest source of heat, which had a direct impact on the temperature of computer. My friends used to joke that she can use her computer's CPU to fry eggs. So, there are some good tips for keeping your laptop cool.1. Keep the environment as cool as possible. Using a Notebook computer in the hot summer, you'd better use your air-conditioning. If there is no air-conditioning, at least use fans. Otherwise, even if the computer withstand, I am afraid you will not.2. Put something under the computer to allow airflow between the laptop and the desk. It may sound like a small trick, but a very important one. You can put part of a book under it, or you can buy the computer cooling pads which works extremely well considering how cheap they are.3. When using the in the bed or sofa, try not to block the air outlet of the Notebook computer. There are so many cases that the computer died simply because there is no way to get the hot air out. In summer time, you don't want to live in a house with all windows closed, neither does your computer.Summer is always challenging for all the electronics. Use your common sense, and your computer will be as cool as you.

What Do We Know About Ring Back Tones?

12 July 2009 08:56:00

http://www.mobivaz.com/images/vrbt.jpgHow do you show your own personal funky style to your callers? With a ring back tone of course. Ring back tones are all the rage now; in this tech-driven my music is better than yours, world we live in. Kids, parents, and especially teens are all riding the ring back wave. It's fun, it's entertaining and it's simple.Your callers or group of callers will hear your chosen song when they call instead of the "vanilla ring" as it is now referred to as. Not that there is anything wrong with Vanilla, but nowadays plain just doesn't cut it like it use to. The drive to be different is too strong. I mean, come on "All the cool kids are doing it" seems to be the phrase that will make anyone run out and buy anything, including ring backs. Now I am not judging by no means.I myself am a ring back user and proud of it. While my cellular provider offers free monthly ring backs of the most requested download for that month, I enjoying downloading new ones and moving around old ones. My friends never know what to expect and my family all have their own special song I picked out for them that has some sentimental meaning. I personally think it's great to hear what other people like. How else would have certain artist made it big or certain songs become a platinum seller? Word of mouth is a great way to support your favorite band/artist, so what better way than letting your friends actually hear for themselves the new jam by the new artist you think is "fly".Ring back tones are an expression of who you are and advertisement for your artist. Two great qualities in one download, for little cost. Get your ring back tones today and start sharing your music.

Requiring a Greater Laptop Computer?

12 July 2009 08:51:00

http://www.computersavenue.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/flybook-vm-advanced-laptop-6.jpgNotebooks are some of the most convenient machines available. Laptops have all the features of a home computer with the feature of portability. Laptops can be brought anyplace at all times, making labor and leisure to a whole other point. Many individuals have difficulty selecting which laptop to buy. Whether it be a concern of affordability or engineering, there are good qualities and bad qualities to every single laptop, making it worrisome to get the best computer. The introductory step is to uncover a laptop store or site that has good prices but is still trustworthy. A lot of individuals get caught up in uncovering the least expensive notebook on the market but forget to see the quality. Receiving an affordable notebook is great, sure, but it is all a waste if the laptop breaks down in a few weeks. Laptop Shoppers is amidst those trustworthy web pages with mid-range prices and best grade brands released.Soon after uncovering a site to purchase a laptop from, the purchaser needs to consider what he or she is going to use the laptop for. A laptop needed to start an internet store will need more unique parts than one needed for a high school student. The more the laptop has to remember, the more storage it will require. If the laptop has to deal with multiple projects at once, it probably needs to have a quick processor. A purchaser just needs to apply some common knowledge to limit a shopper's search for a laptop. The cost of the notebook is also a concern. Acer and Dell both produce solid notebooks for inexpensive prices. They do not have all the fancy parts of some of the more expensive brands, but they with out a doubt offer good computers for the cost. Higher end manufactures like Toshiba and Apple make more developed computers, but they also charge more for their products. All the notebooks are fine; it is just a matter of how much a person can spend.

Laptop Bags - Which One is Perfect For a Girl?

12 July 2009 08:49:00

http://www.nofullstop.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/willow-laptop-bags.jpgMost people think that men use laptops more as compared to the women, but they are wrong. As the ratio of laptops is increasing, the ratio of laptop bags and cases is also increasing. Most people did not know that there are bags which are designed for women especially. Designers are designing very good quality women bags which are durable and stylish as well. Here are some points that a girl should consider while buying a bag for her:The first thing that a girl should consider is the color of the bag. The favorite colors of most girls are pink and purple. If you find a bag in these colors then these bags are specially designed for girls. Women bags are available in other colors also. There are no restrictions for girls to choose other colors. The second very important thing that a girl should consider is the size of the bag. Your bag should have enough space to carry your computer and other necessary items such as purse and wallet. Make sure that you bag should have pockets and compartments in it.Consider the weight of the bag. No doubt females are strong but no girl likes to carry a 40 pound bag on her shoulders. A girl should always select a bag which is lighter in weight. Another essential tip is that you should select a bag with wheels, handles and wide straps. In the end, there are hundreds of women laptop bags available in the markets and on websites. The very easy way of purchasing a bag is online shopping. Always choose a bag according to your requirements.

Laptop Memory Upgrades

12 July 2009 08:45:00

http://www.aussiepcfix.com/images/laptop-ram-memory-upgrade1.jpg If you'd like to speed up your laptop than installing laptop memory might be the quickest and easiest way to do it. Most laptops have memory that just snaps in place, most people can do it themselves without paying anybody to do it. Installing memory means your computer can load more data from the hard drive into it's memory. The more it can load the less it has to keep going back to the hard drive, the less it has to load from the hard drive the quicker it is. First you need to make sure your new memory is going to fit before you install it. Let's take a look at the three most important things you need to match when replacing your laptop memory.Type of Laptop Memory.Your laptop RAM memory is probably one of three types unless you have an ancient computer. DDR type memory is what most laptops have today. DDR stands for Double Data Rate, and comes in three types DDR, DDR2 and DDR3. DDR2 laptop memory is twice as fast as DDR laptop memory, and DDR3 is twice as fast as DDR2. So before you replace your memory you need to find whether you have DDR, or DDR2 or 3. Replacing 2 with 3 won't make your computer faster, many times it won't even work.Memory SpeedEach type of memory will have different speeds. You need to find a speed that matches or exceeds your computer. You won't really see a performance gain by going with faster memory, but it will work. The reason faster memory won't help is because your computer can only move so much information into and out of the computer. Think of the memory as being a toll booth, not matter how fast the speed limit is on either side of the toll booth, you still have to wait in line. Your memory speed limit may be higher but the data still has to wait in line. You can sometimes open up your laptop and see the specs on the memory it has or you can go to the manufacturers website and it should have a memory finder. Pin TypeEach "stick" of memory has pins on it that fit into a slot on the computer. The number of pins should match exactly. If not they won't fit. Their are notches cut into the memory that line up with the slots on the computer so you couldn't install the wrong memory even if you wanted to. You won't be able put it in wrong either, which is good. So the three most important things to look for are:Memory TypeMemory SpeedPin Type

Learning and Training Using IT Technology

05 July 2009 13:48:00

http://www.wmin.ac.uk/images/it%20learning%20cropped.jpgEducation has been in existence for a long time. And the subjects we teach and methods we use change over time. But as time goes by, everything changes along the way, especially on education. Nowadays, education's new face is e-learning, or electronic learning. Elearning is defined as the delivery of learning content via electronic media such as the Internet, audio and video equipment, web-based, CD-ROM, and Web 2.0 media. To put it simply, e-learning is another form of technology-assisted teaching and learning. The software platform that automates the process of teaching and learning is known as Learning Management Systems (LMS). For the ability to facilitate the development and distribution of courses materials over the Internet, more and more educational institutes and businesses organizations have embraced it both open source software and proprietary LMS.E-learning is not necessarily distance learning. Students and instructors engaged in e-learning may not be geographically distanced from each other. As an example, students on campus living on campus or nearby may take course partially or fully online. Also a student can even do self-study online training without any need of teachers at all. E-learning can add an extra layer of flexibility to both students and instructors in terms where and when they want to learn and give lessons. E-learning and distance learning is not synonymous. Distance learning refers to the learning process that uses the Internet as a form of a vehicle for delivery of instructional content, while e-learning covers a much wide range of media for learning content delivery. The rapid growth of E-learning in recent years is often associated with the growth of the Internet. For there are other types of learning that are growing at a considerable rate too. For instance, mobile learning or rather m-learning, is a rapidly growing innovation with advantage of allowing learners to be on the move while learning. M-learning is an extension of e-learning, which uses mobile phones and Personal digital assistants (PDA) that can play online computer training videos. However, the growth of m-learning is limited by the bandwidth available to deliver sophisticated learning content. With no doubt, new technology will open the new options for new way of authoring and delivering learning content. Organizations and institutions will be equipped with new tools to train employees without loss of productivity and high cost of hiring a consultant. This is education at its best ever.

Computer Freezing - You Can Fix it and Prevent It

05 July 2009 13:44:00

http://static.squidoo.com/resize/squidoo_images/-1/lens4718682_1243420260power_button.jpgWindows PC users often experience freezing problems and must know how to handle this. Freezing may even happen when you are not working on your computer. It can take place during an antivirus scan, while watching videos, listening to audio material or working with the word processor.Usually, to recover from system freezing you can press the Ctrl+Alt+Delete key combination. With Windows 95, 98, and ME, this will give you the option of rebooting your computer. With Windows NT, 2000, and XP when you press the Ctrl+Alt+Delete key combination this will open the Task Manager window. You may then browse through the running programs listed in Task Manager, pick the program that is not responding, then click the End Task button to close the program. When the program is closed, your system should be running normally. You can experience system freezing if you run an application which is not compatible with your system. Quite obviously you need to remove the application to correct this problem. If there is a compatible version of the application you should obtain this and install it instead. If you install a Windows operating system that requires more resources than your PC has, this will result in freezing. The minimum system requirements for Windows XP is a 300 MHz processor, 1.5 GB disk space, SVGA (800x600) resolution monitor, and CD-ROM or DVD Drive for installation. If the processor, disk space, and memory does not meet these requirements, you may experience frequent system freezing.Freezing may result if any hardware such as the keyboard or mouse are not compatible with the operating system on your PC. Any program which needs a lot of memory can cause freezing due to possible memory conflicts with other programs and even with the operating system. This type of conflict will markedly slow down your computer and can be the cause of frequent freezing. To eliminate these problems, you should only install hardware and programs which are compatible with your computer. Some applications like Internet Explorer and some third-party software, will store information in the Temp folder of your system. If your hard disk capacity is small you may not have the space to store these temporary files, and you will as a result experience freezing. To avoid this you can use utilities, for example Disk Cleanup, to remove unnecessary files and data from your hard drive and thus to free up considerable disk space. By using Disk cleanup you may remove temporary internet files, unwanted files, program files, web pages and various other data. Disk Cleanup will empty your Recycle Bin and compress files. With Windows XP, You can find Disk Cleanup by clicking on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tool -> Disk Cleanup.Errors and bad sectors will develop on your hard drive over a period of use. Your computer will freeze when you attempt to access information stored in the bad sectors. The hard disk must be kept in good condition by regularly using Windows XP maintenance applications such as Chkdsk and Disk Defragmenter. To open Disk Defragmenter go to the System Tools menu. You can then defragment drives which are identified by the letters C:, D:, etc. You can run ChkDsk from Start -> Run or from the command prompt. Chkdsk volume:/f will repair disk errors without scanning for bad sectors, and chkdsk volume:/r commands will repair errors and will identify bad sectors on the hard drive and mark them.Windows registry may also cause system errors and freezing if it is corrupted or damaged. Correction of this problem is obtained by scanning the registry for errors and removing all unwanted and outdated material. The best way to handle this is by downloading a quality registry cleaner tool from the internet. Registry cleaner applications are designed to be easy to use and will correct registry problems safely and quickly. We tested several of the most popular registry cleaners and found that there is considerable difference in performance, ease of use and features available. We found that one registry cleaner was able to find as much as 50% more errors than some others and was a superior application.
