3J Class Page 2008
This is a temporary blog until the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is up and runnning. Children will be given e-mail addresses and passwords with which to access the VLE.Homework last week 20-3-09
Very sorry not to have got homework out - conspiracy between printers, timetables and illnesses. Here are copies to download:Fractions for SHOULDFractions for COULDPS If you find the music from the game below very annoying, there is a little speaker icon at the bottom of it that allows you to turn the sound off. Here is the fractions flags game for SHOULD. It uses halves and quarters. It is fine for MUST as well:Here is the game for COULD. It uses thirds.
Homework 20-3-09
More fractions:Sheets sent home. Can't put them on here, sorry.Check out the activities listed below. If you email me I will send logon details for VLE. We haven't properly got to grips with it in class, but I'm happy for people to have a go - a few memorised their usernames and passwords, and used the link below, so they have already been on it. The day we tried in class it was not working. Bit is OK now. Go to My Classes, choose the Maths Targets page.
A game to play
I found a web site with loads of games where you have to click on things in the right order. It's great for maths because you have to be systematic. Have a go.You click the panel and this makes things happen in the game screen. You are trying to make all 6 panels get up to MAX. You need to click on each panel in the right order. To succeed you will need to use some common sense. Then you will have to write down the order you try each time, so you know how well different orders work. Can you make the poorly man completely better? Look out for the doctor! He's quite funny.
Homework 5-2-09
Apologies for not making Weds parents evening.Maths homework continues to include learning tables. It is also important that we assess children's targets - some have a long way to go to achieve the target they have chosen. Start at the red target and see what your child knows.More to follow.By the way the recent playscripts project ended up with performance s being videoed. The videos are on You Tube CLICK HERE. Please be a aware this was all done in our english lessons, and rehearsal time was both very limited and unsupported. It was the script writing that was intended to be the star. Unfortunately, as you will see, it is very hard to read a script and hold up a puppet!Hope you enjoy your child's performance. Here's an example:
Virtual Learning Environment
The children are currently finding out about e-mail. We will be learning about being safe and responsible on the internet, and the children will be given their e-mail addresses (our education authority has provided them free for all children) soon. They will also be learning to use the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), for which their email addresses and passwords will provide access. Here is a link to a logon page for the VLEThere is a survey about learning, a game, a history activity and some sports news on the 3J area of the VLE at the moment. Children will be able to access email by logging on to their VLE.

Maths home learning 16-1-09
Everyone is practising telling the time.By now most children should be able to tell the time at least in quarters. For those who can tell the time, this week's focus is on calculating time differences.Children who struggle to tell the time have not grasped the function of the minute hand, and need to practise saying what its different positions mean. Some time-telling games and activities can be found at http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/maths/measures.htm#Time.Those who can already tell the time are planning a journey to watch a football match. This will involve some research, using timetables and may even mean a little learning about 24hr time. It will certainly require some adult support, which I hope you are able to give.A timetable for the local bus into Norwich can be found at this First Buses page. Train times can be found at this National Express page.
Closing down for Christmas
No Maths homework this week, and none to take home for Christmas. Should really have been homework this week and none for performance week.Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.We are now about this far - - from getting the Virtual Learning Environment running. This mostly will make life easier for me as I won't need to use MediaWire to store files for you, but it may become more fun for children and parents too: we can have forums and even a chat room (all accessed via children's username and password which we are given by County - or will be given).
