Website promotion is a vital area in internet marketing that you should learn to master immediately. Your website is your HQ on the web, and as such, should be made prominent at the soonest possible time. The more people who would know about your website, the more visitors you would have.Increased web site traffic would mean more potential sales and an expanded customer base. Here are a ten useful ways to increase the volume of traffic of your site:1. Get Your Own Domain Name.People will never forget catchy domain names. Getting your own domain name will provide familiarity and recall. Be sure to choose a short and easy to remember domain name that is appropriate to your business.2. Upload New, Original and Useful Content.Blatant ads such as banners and pop-ups only irritate visitors. Give them information they can't find anywhere else, and give it to them for free. Always think benefits when posting a new article or feature. Thinking of ways to get your visitor what they want will establish respect and more importantly trust.3. Submit Your Site to Search Engines.Search engines bring more than 75% of traffic to most web sites. Search engine submissions means serious work. This involves search engine positioning and meta tag placements. It doesn't end there because you need to test this with a number of search engine tools. This process involves constant monitoring of website competitors, and continuous editing of pages.4. Pay For Top Spots. The best way to get website traffic without trying too hard would be through paid advertisements. These advertisements would be posted on prime locations or banners of websites. Popular websites like leading newspapers and search engines would provide immediate recognition and visibility to their customers. Of course this entails some substantial advertising budget, but it is a good recourse for those who could afford it.5. Form an Online Community. An online community can be a message board, email groups, discussion list, and even a chat forum. Actively participate in these on-line groups by posting answers to other people's questions and post appropriate information. Be visible and include your signature at the end of your postings. Maximize these special interest groups because people in online communities get involved easily and are ready to communicate with others.6. Start Your Own Mailing List.It is the best way to keep in touch with your prospects and your customers. This is the best way to build the credibility needed to close a sale to your target market.7. Start an E-Zine for Your Website. An E-zine is an extension of your site, but this will highlight new information and features of your site. People will be reminded of your website as they read each issue. If they find they issue interesting or worth sharing, they can easily and instantly pass this on to the people within their network.8. Submit Articles.Write your own article and submit it to e-zines, websites and magazines that accept article submissions. Be sure to include your business and contact information and website address in the resource box.9. Exchange Ads.Create ads that will promote your business and website. Submit this to e-zines or other websites in exchange for free ad space in your own electronic publication. Your presence to other site or publications is very important in getting the increased traffic that you want. This is usually facilitated with either simple links or flashy banners.10. Update Your Website.Your website should always be up and running. It is to your advantage if you maintain your website with new articles and updated features. Maintain a clean layout and check for broken links, images and pages. If they always find what they want and need, they will surely be coming back each time. While it is always important toget your site listed with all the major search engines (and most of the smallerones), you might be overlooking a vital part of promoting your site, promotingyour web site locally.A small business will often it'swebsite to provide a "Showroom" for their products, information about theirbusiness, and directions to help potential customers find theirbusiness. Their main goal often is to attract customers locally or fromnearby towns and cities, so some additional strategy is useful in promotingtheir site.Local websitepromotion checklist 1. Local Newspaper: Many local papers have a section to introduce your business tothe area. Write a small article about your business and submit it to thenewspaper.2.Press Releases: This is a formal release about your business. There are manyplaces on the Internet that will publish press releases for free. This can be agood way to be sure your business can be found on the Internet. Often localpapers will also run these releases.3.Niche Marketing: For local businesses, be sure your keywords (both in yourcontent and in the Meta Tags) include local cities and towns. When some onetypes in "Used cars" in the search box it will return thousands of results. When they narrow it down to "Used cars 'YourTown'", you want your web site tobe high in the listings.4.Email Signature: Most email programsallow you to add a signature to the bottom, include your web site address. If someone visits your site and finds nothingnew, they will disappear into cyberspace and spend their timeon other sites. If you don't want to write articles, copy and paste other people'sarticles or tips from their ezines or Web sites with theirpermission, of course. Keep the pieces under 1200 words.Common lengths are anywhere from 75-1000 words. You caninclude a tip list, past feature articles from your ezine, an excerptfrom your book, poetry, a heart-felt story, or a character sketchfrom your fiction book.3. Publish your own ezine. Make it short and sweet. Start witha monthly, then see if you can do it bi-weekly. Let people know this through your ezine.8. Post a monthly special only for your Web visitors. Call it"Discount of the month," or"Freebie of the month." The Importance of Page ContentThe content of a page is probably the most important consideration when building traffic to your web site. Other techniques do gain more traffic but page content and content of your web site in general is most important when producing a good quality site that will naturally build traffic.1.1 General guidelines for a pageFor a page to rank well with the search engines, the page should be optimized and have sufficient text that is of relevance to your visitor. Ideally the page will be written and presented to be easy to read. It will have a good use of white space and placing of text blocks and pictures (graphics). The text you write should be warm and compelling. It should flow well so it is easy to read and be in short paragraphs so interest is easy to maintain. The content you place on the page should be reflected by the page name, title, the H1 heading, description and meta tag keywords.1.2 Page ContentAs the number of pages on the web increases, it is becoming more difficult to achieve a high page ranking. There is much you can do and the most important consideration is the content on the page. Search engines are becoming more specialized at looking at the page as a whole and ranking the page on the basis if its content rather than just the title, meta tag keywords and the description. The text or copy on the page is now becoming the most important feature with the all the properties of the page being used to judge its ranking. This is good from our point of view. Let me explain. If we are interested in creating a page that is relevant to our site visitor then the copy of the page will contain accurate and compelling information about its topic. The page will naturally rank higher than other less well constructed pages. If our pages are the best we can make them, when compared with much poorer pages, our pages will rapidly rise in ranking. When a search engines refers a visitor to your page, they will record the time that they spend at your site (as long as the visitor clicks back to the search engine). This information is used to rank pages. If your visitor stays longer on your site compared with other sites, your page ranking will naturally improve. So creating pages that are "sticky" will help ranking and in turn increase traffic to your site. This is a short piece taken from my eBook on Web Site Traffic Building techniques. Every web business should be using testimonials. Testimonials are extremely effective in making visitors take that extra step forward to buy your product because they are given confidence by looking at what other people have said. Testimonials can work everywhere on a website; on the homepage or in the sales letter. Good, believable testimonials on your website can spark a great number of extra sales. Here are 8 ways to make your online testimonials more effective.1. When asking for testimonials, ask people whose opinions count. If a visitor on your site sees a testimonial from a well known person who is associated with the product you are trying to sell then this will have a great boost for your credibility. Just ask these well known people to review your product and give a testimonial. Do not be afraid to ask for testimonials because really you have nothing to lose.2. Ask your customers to send in their picture when they give testimonials about your product or service. This will show viewers that the testimonials you show on your site are not fake. It gives the impression that real people have said these good words about your website.3. Have your customers who give testimonials mail you their hand written signature. This way you can scan in the signature so that it looks like a genuine testimonial. Once again, this is another way to make your testimonials more believable so that visitors will start to trust you more; a crucial part of achieving online success.4. Similarly, you could have customers to send in a hand written testimonial as a letter. You could scan in the whole letter for boosted credibility. However, in order to get customers to do this you could offer a discount or offer a free gift if they give a good hand written testimonial. Alternatively, you could ask for a testimonial on a post card.5. You could have customers give a spoken testimonial. This can be done easily by the customer recording his or her testimonial with a tape recorder. An alternative and possibly easier way of doing this is to have your customer leave a voicemail or answer phone message and then upload this to your website as an audio file. Have the audio testimonial played whenever someone enters your site so that visitors always get to hear how good other customers have found your product or service.6. When your customers give testimonials, ask them for their personal profile too. This will make testimonials more entertaining to read for your visitors and will show visitors what type of people your product and service benefits most. Also, your customers will probably be very willing to give a testimonial with a personal profile because it will allow them to include their web address. This way, you should be able to get plenty of these testimonials.7. When you receive your email testimonials, take a screen shot of the email instead of just extracting the testimonial from the text. This way when visitors see the email, they will see the date, time and 'who it's from' field. This of course will serve as sufficient proof to show that this is a genuine testimonial from a happy customer.8. Once you have received very positive testimonials, ask the writers of these testimonials to give their contact information so that your web visitors can contact them and enquire on the product you are selling. This is a great way to get people talking about your product positively and your visitors are more likely to believe a positive account from a previous customer than a positive account from your sales letter.Overall, just be creative about trying to improve the effect of your testimonials. Put them where people will see them and include them on all pages of your website so that happy customers will be associated with your website. If testimonials are used effectively, many more sales will be made. For more information on this subject or about making money online go to http://www.info-ebooks.co.uk100s of free ebooks and software products are also available at this address. Driving traffic to your website can be a time consuming task. However, these easy tips may help you increase traffic and convert those visitors into actual customers.1. Title on your main URL and secondary pagesOriginally, my title was ADVANCED SYSTEMS-A Leadership & Organizational Training & Development Firm near Chicago, IL. If I searched for the first two words ADVANCED SYSTEMS using Overture at http://inventory.overture.com I found a little over 4,000 keyword searches. By using this tool, I entered various key words and discovered that the term education and training had over 210,000 searches during the previous month. Research also recommends that the title length not exceed 77 characters and so I continued researching the most effective key words to pair with my first two terms. Also, additional reading suggested that you indicate your location within this title. Even though the completed title may exceed the recommended length, this is OK because the search engines do read beyond 77 characters. Also, as you construct or revise each page, make sure that title has the appropriate key words. Currently, I am doing that for my site because as stated earlier ADVANCED SYSTEMS is not a popular searched term.2. ContentBoth my Internet marketing coach (www.leaders-perspective.com) and my marketing consultant (www.hodgecommunications.com) acknowledged that the content on my site of which I wrote was of exceptional editorial quality. Their praises made me feel very good. However, both told me that the content wouldn't "sell an igloo to an Eskimo." This wasn't what I wanted to hear after spending hundreds of hours writing this exceptional content. Currently, I am revisiting each page and rewriting the content using a marketing content focus instead of editorial one. I had failed one of the basic lessons in marketing - write to the audience needs by identifying potential benefits not your expertise.3. Search WordsAgain using the mentioned site in tip #1, I began to rewrite the content and then checked key words and phrases to ensure that they were embedded within the content. Writing in Microsoft Word, the writer can go to the Edit button and scroll down to the Find icon. By typing in a specific word or phrase, this handy tool will check to see how many times it appears in the document. A note of caution - Be careful not to overload your content with search words because the robots are quite sophisticated and can distinguish this overload.4. Call to ActionWithin the content on each page should be a call to action. The visitor should be encouraged to sign up for a free newsletter or contact your office by phone or email. Also, you can provide links to other pages within your website such as "click to hear read more articles."5. Thematic ApproachUsing a theme entices search engines to travel through all the pages within your site. The theme can be your unique selling proposition. Also, a thematic approach encourages your visitors to visit more than one or two pages.6. Use of Pictures, Graphics and FlashPictures are far more effective than clip art. Remember to use a variety of genders and ethnicity because your Internet audience is diverse. Be careful with flash and other time consuming graphics as they may consume too much time to download. Many visitors leave sites if the site doesn't download in a matter of seconds. Time is money not only for you, but your visitors as well.7. Free OffersVisitors like to receive free offers from ezine booklets to articles to recommendations on books and other sites. Entice your visitors with freebies and have them coming back for more.8. Regular UpdatesSites need to be updated on a regular basis to encourage Search Engines to continually visit your site. A static site is not good for web traffic or building relationships with your visitors. Construct a plan to revisit your pages to provide new content for Search Engines. HINT: Remember to check Key Words as you update your pages.9. Perfection and Under ConstructionSince web sites should not be static, perfection is an ongoing experience. Don't wait until the content is perfect. Load it and then watch your statistics. Under construction shouldn't be forever, however prioritize those pages you wish to update first. If you need to add a page, do so and mark it as "Under Construction." I currently have several new pages "Under Construction" and still have yet to revise all my pages. Working using a plan (see tip 8), I anticipate completing the entire site within the next 30 days. And then, revisit at least 2 pages each month to update the content. These last two months have been an incredible learning experience for me as I continue to work on my site to expand traffic and therefore potential clients. For example, one of the most visible results has been a 300% increase on one of my revised pages (http://www.processspecialist.com/youth.htm). Even though the site is still has pages under construction, I know that following these 9 simple tips will continue to multiply traffic and eventually increase my client base.Copyright 2005(c) Leanne Hoagland-Smith, www.processspecialist.comThis article may be freely published. Are you tired of writing countless eMails to other webmasters asking for a link exchange with your new website just to see them being deleted by a spam filter or just ignored? Or don't you want to go through many manual directory submissions again just to get some links and therefore potential visitors to your homepage? Then one of the many different programs that automate or simplify the process of building links to your site might be what you are looking for. However, since those services are available in many different kinds of flavor and some of them might even damage your sites ranking instead of helping it, this article will now take a deeper look at some of the more important programs to help you decide which could help your websites best.1. Link Vault - http://www.link-vault.com/This one is a fairly new player in the field however it's system looks like one of the best and I know of many people (including myself) who had very pleasant results with it. The basic concept works like this: You add a little php script to your sites that will automatically place links to sites of other members in the system on your website. For those links you get a certain amount of points (called Vaultage) based on how many links you give and how valuable they are. Your points are then again automatically spent to add your links to the other websites in the system. That means you always get back exactly what you gave.2. Coop Advertising Network - http://www.digitalpoint.comThe Coop could be the predecessor of Link Vault. The system is nearly exactly the same except that the Coop is much older and therefore has many more members, that the points are called Wight instead of Vaultage here, that you can choose to also show banner ads and that the links are not static but rotate every time the site is refreshed (Which makes them not nearly as valuable for search engine optimization as the Link Vault links are). In the end its down to personal preference if you decide to use the Coop or Link Vault. They are both good and have both prooven themselves to work.3. Link Market - http://www.linkmarket.net/Link Market works in a totally other way: When you are a member your site will be placed in a directory where other webmasters can find it and request a link exchange immediately. Of course you can request link exchanges with other sites in the directory as well. Link Market will then help finishing the exchange by providing the link codes and testing if the links have been placed correctly. A good concept but some big problems I have found are that there are very many spammy sites in there and that they require you get a paid membership even for the most simple features. It might still be worth a try though.4. Link Metro - http://www.linkmetro.com/Works exactly like Link Market but you get all the features without paying anything. In exchange it doesn't have as many members as Link Market does by far.5. Got Links? - http://www.gotlinks.com/I would highly recommend staying away from this one (or any program with a similar concept) as this is what is considered a "link farm" by search engines and using them could get you penalized or even banned from them. What they do is to just setup a big directory at your website that links to all other sites in the system. In exchange all those sites link to you from their directories. As I've said, it's not worth a try. Your link wouldn't be found in those deeps directories anyway.Of course there are many others around, most of which work in a similar fashion like one of the programs above, but I think those five are the most popular ones and the first four also the best working ones. Number 5 for example could be considered rather considered a warning.Thomas Höfter is the webmaster and publisher of the metal music portal Metally.net and the smartphone software directory Smartphony. Or you can find places that you can submit your article to which is like a data base for ezine owners to go to when looking for content for their newsletter.Secondly, there are webmasters who would love to put your article on their site. By using your article, they don't have to do all the "pencil pushing" work, and they get good content for the web site. If the have a good web site, with alot of good info then they will get more visitors, and happy visitors at that! Meanwhile these people will read your article and some of them will visit your web site. In this way, you are giving something to someone and getting something in return....FREE traffic. Placing these articles in as many places as you can find will increase the number of visitors to your site. What can you write about? Anything!! Write about anything you can. Maybe you have some good cooking tips. Write an article about your tips. Find appropriate web sites, newsletters, and ezines to submit the article to. Maybe you don't feel like you have anything to write about. How about the vacation spot you visited last summer? Write a review! You see there is so much information on the web. There are so many sites looking for content about such a variety of topics, you can write about anything and find places to submit your article. Now stop and think about it! If you know anything about ezines, you will know some of them have 1,000's and 10's of thousands of readers. Some may only have hundreds of readers, but multiple that by 5 or 10 and the number of folks being exposed to your web site is quite alot! Now maybe your are starting to see why writing articles are such a good source of free traffic! Virtually all website owners concentrate their efforts and energy into getting more visitors. With business owners this effort is spent on getting more and more new customers. What many people forget - with both their website and their business - is that getting new customers (or visitors) is only a small part of the equation for success.Reason For Failure No. 1 - The 'I am God'-SyndromeGod got his name from being able to do anything and everything and be everywhere at once. Despite what we are taught from an early age many people still insist on believing they themselves are God. Ever found yourself answering the phone, making a sale, running a sales meeting, welcoming customers and doing your company's accounts all in one day? Sure you have. You're trying to be God and do everything and be in more than one place at one time. You will fail. People do this with their website too. Rather than just stopping at providing content (which is where you should stop and hand everything else over to the professionals) some people think that despite no professional training or education in the subject they are experts in web design, website marketing, graphic design and business consultancy. Remember - stick to what you know, leave everything else to the experts. Your job is to run your business - not to run around like a headless chicken trying to create a website, market a website, do the books, answer the phones and make the tea. Reason For Failure No. 2 - 'Build It And They Will Come'Ah yes. The halcyon days of the early 1990s when anything seemed possible and merely owning a domain name or funky web address meant certain success and riches beyond your wildest dreams. "Build it and they will come" is what they said. They were wrong. Disaster after high profile disaster came crashing down into a pile of dotcom carnage as the millions poured into the idea pit were consumed by fast-spending entrepreneurs who possessed more pairs of trainers than they did explanations for where the profit was going to come from. Just remember - there are more web pages in the world than there are people so if you really think that just building a website is enough it's time for a serious re-think. You've spent the money on graphic design, content, domain names, hosting, web design and testing and your site has just gone live. Congratulations - you have just completed step 1 of 1000,001 in having a site that generates business for you. You now need to market the site - just as you need to market your business when it first starts - advertising, fliers, yellow pages, referrals, networking, cold calls, direct marketing, mail shots, radio slots, events, conventions, product launches, press coverage etc. A website is exactly the same. Don't forget the new statement for the new age of new technology: Build it and they will say - 'I can't find it!'Reason For Failure No. 3 - You Choose The Wrong Website Marketing CompanyIt's difficult isn't it? There are so many to choose from how do you know where to start? Well word of mouth recommendation is always a good indication. Failing that you can look at the key areas that are likely to indicate the quality of their service. For example, ask these questions; - Do they offer guarantees of any kind on their results? - Do they proudly display testimonials from satisfied customers on their website? - What is their profile on the web like, can you find them easily? - Do they have detailed case studies explaining how they have helped other businesses? - Do they have a long-standing track record in the industry and wide client-base? - There is no real way to avoid making the wrong decision but if you keep learning more and more about website marketing you will be arming yourself with enough information to at least reduce the risk of choosing the wrong company.
