Dawson, Butler elected to Hall of Fame

Center Dermontti Dawson and defensive back Jack Butler, a pair of former Steelers greats, were among the group named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Dawson, a seven-time All-Pro, was a member of the NFL's all-decade team for the '90s. He played in 184 career games for the Steelers and helped redefine the center position.

Butler, a member of the all-decade team for the '50s, had 52 career interceptions in nine seasons with the Steelers.

Also inducted were a pair of Pitt products, running back Curtis Martin and defensive lineman Chris Doleman.

They will join defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy and offensive tackle Willie Roaf in Canton this summer for induction.

Not making the cut this year were former Steelers Jerome Bettis and linebacker Kevin Greene.

Bettis should make it in 2012.

The Rambling Gambler: Superbowl 46

Alas, the end of the football season really is around the corner. With the Superbowl only days away, it'll be a long wait before we see meaningful games again. Happily, we've got one good game left this weekend. With a line of only 3 points, it's certainly one of the closer spreads in recent Superbowl history. I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see a dramatic finish. As I've said before, these playoffs have delivered some amazing games. It would be perfect if it ended with just one more. I think it will. Both of these teams have key strengths and weaknesses, and both have the ability to take advantage and win. I'm going to deliver two picks for this one... first the winning team, and second, the over/under. I hope everybody has a great time watching the Superbowl this Sunday. I know I will!


It's Manning vs. Brady for Superbowl 46. Who adds another ring? New England -3 over New York Giants


I wrestled with this one for quite awhile (which is why this is getting posted on 2/3), but I've finally decided to settle on New England. The simple fact at the core of all of my analysis is that I think the Patriots looked better winning against Baltimore than the Giants did against San Francisco. The Giants had major problems protecting Eli Manning, they had little success running the ball, and the defense was bailed out by a combination of Alex Smith's failure to throw the ball more aggressively and of course, the critical fumbles that led to 10 points.

Still, there is plenty of room to argue that the Giants can win this game. First and foremost is the matchup of New York's receivers against New England's secondary. With Patriots WR Julian Edelman putting significant time in at nickel corner, you have to expect the Giants to have at least some success throwing the ball. Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks have to be considered one of the, if not the, top duo of receivers right now in the NFL. If one of them gets slowed down, the other one always seems to pick up the slack.

The one thing that might slow them down though is their own offensive line. The Niners dominated the bat

New York Giants (9-7) – New England Patriots (13-3)


Llega el gran partido de fútbol americano que paraliza toda norteamerica, la Super Bowl. Reedición de la Super Bowl del 2007, donde en esta ocasión los Patriots quieren vengarse de aquel encuentro, donde como este fin de semana partían como favoritos, pero un último drive de ensueño y contrareloj, cargado de emoción y de jugadas increíbles, hicieron que los Giants, guiados por un Eli Manning mágico, se impusieran con un touch down casi sobre el pitido final.


Desde luego no lo tendrá fácil New England para consumar su venganza ya que los Giants vienen cargados de moral por juego desplegado y sobre todo por resultados, con unos play offs espectaculares, dejando en la cuneta al superfavorito Green Bay Packers y a unos dominantes en temporada regular San Francisco 49ers, ambos encuentros vencidos a domicilio. En esta temporada, ambos equipos han medido sus fuerzas en la jornada 9, donde los Giants se impusieron 24-20 en casa de New England, el único partido perdido por los Pats como local.


Os vamos a ofrecer una doble entrega de como se presenta este encuentro. En esta primera parte, os facilitamos el trabajo de búsqueda de estadísticas, tan importantes para nuestras apuestas en este deporte, al presentaros un resumen de todas las estadísticas, tanto de equipos como individuales. En una segunda entrega analizaremos algunas de las claves más interesantes del encuentro que nos permita hacernos una idea de cómo será el encuentro, siempre orientado a sacar provecho de nuestras apuestas en cualquiera de sus modalidades. 


Es cierto que en una Super Bowl no es nada sencillo saber cómo será el partido, y que las estadísticas no hay que tomarlas como dogmas de fe, pero sin duda nos ayudarán a conocer los estados de forma de los conjuntos, y qué armas pueden ser más importantes en cada equipo de cara a este partido. Super Week: Two Days Away

Super Bowl XLVI is so close and the anticipation is starting to get to me. The media has been in a whirlwind all week, trying to keep up with the development of everything Peyton Manning while also covering the two teams that this week is truly about.

While there is more going on around the NFL than the storylines of Manning and the 46th playing of the Super Bowl, they by far overshadow anything else the league has had to offer the past several days. However, before I get to those two topics, I’ll provide a brief summary of some other news of the week.

Roger Goodell held a press conference earlier today and I really liked what I heard. He touched on several topics, including the possibility of expanding the NFL to Los Angeles, issues concerning concussions and HGH testing, Thursday Night Football in 2012, and more. To go into detail would make this way too long, so instead I will link to the video of his press conference at the end of this post.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee will meet tomorrow to make a final decision on the Class of 2012. I will also link to a list of the semifinalists at the end of this post. Personally, I am hoping that Cris Carter and Don Coryell will be two members of this year’s class. Watch NFL Network at 5:30 p.m. Saturday to see who is elected to the Hall of Fame.

I don’t want to spend much time on the topic of Peyton Manning because I know a lot of people are tired of hearing about him and, quite frankly, I’m more focused on this Sunday’s game.

Sometime last night, the doctor who performed his surgery, according to several sources, cleared Manning to resume his career. Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted shortly after, "Peyton has not passed our physical nor has he been cleared to play for The Indianapolis Colts. Team statement coming on Friday." I have yet to hear any official statement, but there certainly seems to be some tension remaining despite the joint statement made by the two parties earlier this week.

The excitement surrounding this weekend is sky-high right now. A

Giants es un equipo mas completo en todas las lineas, han jugado a gran nivel en el ultimo mes de Enero y el premio fue estar en el partido del Super Bowl XLVI, pero eso no es suficiente y se ve un equipo con mas temple en comparación del 2008
Eli Manning hace ver que a sus 31 años de edad que le falta mas autoridad en el equipo de Giants, pero eso es solo apariencia, porque cada uno de los jugadores de la linea ofensiva y defensiva lo respetan y lo admiran, por tener un coraje, determinación y motivación que contagia a sus compañeros de equipo; Eli Manning ya tiene un anillo de Super Bowl (XLII) y en ese encuentro fue nombrado como MVP (Jugador Mas Valioso), creo que no hay mucha presión para este QB.
Hablar de la ofensiva de Giants es hablar de un cuadro completo en cada una de las posiciones clave, Corredores (RB), Receptores (WR) y Mariscal de Campo (QB).
Contar con 2 corredores de condiciones diferentes es una ventaja para el equipo de Giants, Ahmad Bradshaw es un corredor con una habilidad nata, al correr y en cada corte lo hace ver de forma natural, al tomar velocidad por fuera de los tacles sus avances son muy productivos y su centro de gravedad bajo lo hace dar esas 3 yardas extras; Brandon Jacobs es el preferido en 3era oportunidad, es el de los avances cortos y explosivos; su ventaja es medir 1.95 cm de altura, no dejar de mover los pies y sobre todo causar daño a sus adversarios, para taclear a este jugador tiene que ser por los costados y que sean 2.
Muy pocas veces una dupla de WR hace mas de 1000 yardas por temporada, en esta ocasión Hakeem Nicks y Víctor Cruz superaron y por mucho esa marca; H. Nicks es utilizado mas en trayecorias de 11 a 12 yardas por jugada, es de manos seguras y en campo abierto es muy habil, por el otro lado se tiene a Víctor Cruz (El Salsero), para hablar de este jugador que seguí mucho toda la temporada (por ser Latino), puedo decir que es el jugador Franquicia de los Giants, rompió el Record de Yardas por Recepción (1536 yardas) de los Giants, realiza espectaculares atrapadas, tiene una facilidad de dejar a los rivales muy atrás, es muy habilidoso frente a
