Sick
This piece was written when I was really sick on a late night last October, Entitled Sick. enjoy:
They have no idea how lucky they are, him holding her as she’s holding him She’s sick but in each other’s company, they laugh and they smile I smile
Aisle one, robutussin, $7.50 cough and cold for adults only
Cold season… It’s that can’t really breathe right, chest wheezing, muscles too tight to configure This disconnect between the you that I once simultaneously admired, hated, loved, And the I, still trying to find a remedy
My voice is Raspy and my throat is sore, like the friction in our relationship I start to speak but the end of my words start to lose sound Like the inconclusive ways our fights would always end in
Phlegm fills my lungs and as I exhale it reminds me of the energy I’ve exhausted And every time I inhale it’s a fight to regain all the Reasons I live for, the passions I fight for, the I love to be alive type of feelings I lost In the course of this sickness
I know I will heal; I just need to keep taking my medication, two doses of integrity, Two doses of I know I deserve better, two doses of I love myself unconditionally per day.
My doctor once said that the more one hurts, the higher the capacity for one to love Somewhere, sometime he is probably feeling the same symptoms.

21 visual conversations

This blog is centered around the physical environment of the United States, not the private vistas, but the common world we share and look at every day -- its fragile history, its sweeping beauty, its mosaic of divergent life, from the wild to the tame -- ever threatened by reckless environmental policies, unreasonable commercial construction and the might of those who profit from malevolent action against the terrain and life of the world.

Such a bland diet
I think a great deal about the bland visual landscape of our young century. Although in American cities, new and exciting designs are being explored and utilized -- from the ordinary bike rail as sculpture, to the growing cultus of temporal, public art pieces - and importantly, clever, green architecture edging away from the constraints of past and poor templates, elsewhere, we are stuck in somewhat of a time warp.
The pre-green era blandscape continues to carry the cache of aggrandizement - living on with no twist of genius. This is vividly apparent when one drives up the commercial highways of rural/suburban America. Personally, I'm intrigued by these commercial roads - the Route 9s, Route 300s, Route whatsovevers that shoulder the big box economy. They continue to power up and define our public spaces.
In this new age of C21, progressive change is painfully slow to arrive on these commercial highways. Case in point -- new construction in the city of Newburgh, along the Hudson River. Its major commercial throughfare is Route 300, soon to be a new home to a Staples Super Store. A fragment of an apple orchard sits on this still undeveloped land. But, as soon as the construction project rolls out, this sweet orchard will be vanquished - swiftly. Rigid town planning, copycat developers and unimaginative municipal boards keep things this way. They work in perfect harmony to keep the visual status quo on these roads. The orchard could be an added perk for the harried Staples customer. Saved, its solid boughs could bear ruby reds for decades to come, providing a welcome depth of shade from hot summer sun, and hopefully a berth for a song bird et famille.
Considering that apples are the New York State royalty of the vegetative world, such a deviation from the Staples template to accomodate this coterie of fruit trees, would be reasonable and modern in thought. It would express compassion towards the assets of this Earth( thus backing away from the tenets of municipal environmental and visual amorality). And yes, would spice up the bland daily diet of big shop boxiness and black top.

A post about Sarah Palin.....'s makeup artist
I watched the candidacy of Sarah Palin with great interest, not just from a political point-of-view, but also because we're nearly the same age - and couldn't be more different.
A lot of attention was paid to her clothes, hair and makeup. Some poeple see this as a double-standard - I enjoyed it because I was curious. I wanted to know what she wore, what kind of makeup she used and how she managed to transform her hair from the Alaska banana clip look to something a bit more polished.
Well. I hit the mother lode today. Talkingshop.com has a three part interview with Sarah Palin's makeup artist, Amy Strozzi. You can access all three parts through this link here:
Ms. Strozzi loves Voluminous mascara, which is my personal fave, so I'm going to pay close attention to her other recommendations.
Also, on a side note, I found a post on HuffPo about Palin's "heavy blush" - I actually like it and started wearing mine that way. It probably looks wack, but it's fun for a change. See the heavy blush slideshow here:
